For centuries, Nomadic life has been embedded into the production of Mongolian cashmere. It bears noble properties, reflective of the Mongolian landscape, and requires special care to ensure that it stays with you for a very long time. All BOGD garments arrive with care labels inside to guide you through the looking after process, giving each piece the longest possible life.

Machine Wash

We would normally recommend dry cleaning or washing cashmere garments by hand, however most lighter weight cashmere garments can be washed in a machine with the right amount of care and attention! Follow our M.U.ST guide below for some top tips on washing your Bogd garments in the machine.

  • Make sure to separate your cashmere garments from other knitwear/clothing, only washing similar colours together.
  • Use a small amount of wool/cashmere shampoo or non-biological, mild detergent.
  • Select the wool or delicate setting only, choosing the lowest temperature (20° C or 30° C max).
  • Turn your spin cycle to the lowest setting of 400 rotations per minute (RPM) or 500rpm depending on your washing machine.

NEVER put your Bogd cashmere in a dryer or hang it to dry and always AVOID using fabric softener as it can be too harsh for the delicate nature of cashmere, causing unwanted damage.

Hand Wash with Love

It’s always safer to handwash your Bogd cashmere garments. Use the simple steps below:

  • Make sure to split lighter garments from darker ones.
  • Use a small amount of wool/cashmere shampoo in lukewarm or cold water.
  • Submerge your garment in the water and press the fabric with your fingertips without rubbing.
  • Then rinse it under running lukewarm water without twisting, tugging, or wringing.

NEVER put your Bogd cashmere in a dryer or hang it to dry and always AVOID using fabric softener as it can be too harsh for the delicate nature of cashmere, causing unwanted damage.

Drying and Ironing

Whether your Bogd cashmere is washed by hand or in the machine, lay it flat on a towel to avoid losing any of its original shape. Direct heat and pressure from an iron can flatten cashmere’s natural loft, resulting in a less fluffy finish and rougher feel. It’s best to use a garment steamer to remove any wrinkles, however, you can iron your cashmere pieces inside out at a low temperature with gentle steam.

NEVER put them directly on a heat source and AVOID leaving them out in the sun.

Regular Care

  • The day-to-day wear and friction from your movement can cause “pilling”; (little balls that form on your cashmere garments). Combing your cashmere with a special cashmere comb will help to reduce this. Washing your garments regularly will also help to reduce the pilling and maintain a fresher look. Avoid using a garment shaver that might damage the fiber.
  • Between uses, you should always store your Bogd garments folded in a drawer as clothes hangers can cause tears and affect the original shape.
  • Like other any wool garments, cashmere can attract moths. Spraying cedarwood oil or keeping balls/rings made of cedar wood near your garments will help with this.
  • You should use a lint brush or lint roller to remove any excess hair or dust that collects.
